Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and a professor at Dhaka University’s Development Studies Department, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University.
The appointment was made by the University’s Chancellor and President, Md. Sahabuddin, on Monday. Dr. Khan becomes the 30th Vice-Chancellor of the prestigious institution.
Dr. Khan is a distinguished academic with a rich background in development studies and governance. He has served as a senior academic advisor at the National Defense College and the Brac Institute of Governance and Development. His commitment to environmental conservation is evident from his role as the Chairman of the Bangladesh Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation.
With advanced degrees from Oxford University, Swansea University, and the Asian Institute of Technology, Dr. Khan brings a global perspective to his new role. His career spans various countries, including Bangladesh, Thailand, and the United Kingdom, where he has gained extensive experience in academia and development management.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Khan held several significant positions, such as Country Representative for the International Union for Conservation of Nature in Bangladesh, Senior Program Coordinator at UNDP-Bangladesh, and a specialist in forest and natural resource management at the Asian Development Bank.
